Soccer Trivia Nights
The first inter-club football trivia competition for Sydney football clubs. Six people represent your club, live, on the night. We are preparing the first event now — register your club’s interest and you will have the date and the venue before anyone else.

See how it works
Football clubs bring together far more than players. They bring together coaches, parents, volunteers, committee members, sponsors, families and supporters. This is a new way for that community to represent the club and compete together, away from the field.
What is Soccer Trivia?
This is not another pub trivia night. It is an inter-club competition: teams play under their club's name against teams from other invited clubs.
Club against club, not strangers against strangers. That is the whole difference.
What gets asked
Here is what makes it different
Many of the questions on the night come from the articles published on this site. That means your club can prepare — and preparing is free.
-
1
Read
Open the Soccer Trivia Library. Every article is sourced and dated.
-
2
Learn
Players, clubs, tournaments, records and the history of the game, in one place.
-
3
Prepare
Share it around the club. Anyone can read it, and it costs nothing.
-
4
Play
Walk in ready, with six people who have done the reading.
Every question is written and checked against a named source, and the same standard runs through the whole library. Nothing on the night comes out of nowhere.
Represent your club
Each club enters a team of six people. Six people, one table, one club — and the six can come from anywhere in the club's own community.
- Players
- Coaches
- Parents
- Committee members
- Volunteers
- Supporters
- Club sponsors
- Friends of the club
There are no complicated eligibility rules to read. Six people, and they represent your club.
Why participate?
Bring your community together
Another reason for players, coaches, families, supporters and volunteers to be in the same room, in a season that otherwise only gathers them on a sideline.
Represent your club
Teams compete under their club's name and colours, on a scoreboard with the other clubs in the district.
Club against club
Friendly competition with neighbouring clubs away from the playing field, where nobody gets injured and nobody gets suspended.
Promote your club
Participating clubs may receive additional exposure through Soccer Trivia, Soccer Channel and the associated digital and social channels.
Create new content
Photographs, interviews, team features, winners and club stories — material a club can use through its own channels afterwards.
Engage sponsors and supporters
Club sponsors and supporters can be part of the night too, which strengthens the relationships already built around the club.
How the night works
One live event. Six people to a table. About three hours.
-
1
Your club enters a table
Six people represent the club. Players, committee, life members, parents — anyone the club wants sitting at its table. Larger clubs can ask for more than one.
-
2
We confirm the date
Once enough clubs are in, we lock the venue and the date so the room fits the number of teams and supporters actually coming, and send both to you.
-
3
You play the night
Rounds across World Cups, club football, the laws of the game, Australian football and more. A live host, a scoreboard and a room full of football people. It runs about three hours.
-
4
A club wins it
The scoreboard settles it on the night, in the room. If the first event works the way we think it will, more will follow.
What happens next
This is the part your club does today. It takes about a minute.
-
1
Express interest
An authorised club representative fills in the short form on this page.
-
2
We confirm the event
Once enough clubs have expressed interest, we confirm the date, the venue and the format.
-
3
Clubs nominate their six
Interested clubs then receive the detail they need to name their team of six.
-
4
Clubs compete
Teams meet in Sydney and play for the first title.
Where will it be held?
The first event is planned for Sydney. The venue is being selected now, and the venue and date will be announced once this expression of interest period closes.
That order is deliberate. We are counting the clubs first so that the room fits the number of teams and supporters who actually turn up, rather than booking a venue and then hoping the right number of clubs come.

What is already built
The questions are not written the week before. The library came first, and it is open to everyone.
- 425 articles published, free to read, no sign-up
- 106 topics, from the World Cup to Australian soccer
- 123 clubs mapped across five neighbouring associations
Every question on the night comes from an article on this site, so a club can prepare and nothing is invented on the night. Open the library.
Is your club interested?
There is no payment and no obligation at this stage, and no entry fee for the pilot. Tell us where your club stands and we will do the rest.
Your contact details are used only to talk to you about Soccer Trivia and club participation. You will not be added to any unrelated marketing list. Read the privacy policy.
Not with a club?
Open tables are seated alongside the club tables. Email info@soccerchannel.com.au and we will put you on the list for the first event with room.
Questions clubs are asking
Is the event confirmed?
The competition is being set up now and club interest is being measured first. The final dates and venue are announced once this stage closes.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. There is no entry fee and no table fee, and your club is never invoiced for entering. The nights are paid for by sponsors and partners rather than by the clubs — that is the whole idea, and it is why we can invite 123 clubs instead of the few that could afford a fee. If that ever changes later, clubs will be told well before they are asked to decide.
Does submitting the form commit our club?
No. It tells us your current level of interest, nothing more. You can change your answer later with one email.
Where will it be held?
Sydney. The exact venue is announced once we know how many clubs are coming.
Who can take part?
The pilot is designed for the invited football clubs. Your six come from the club's own community, which can include players, coaches, parents, committee, volunteers, supporters and sponsors.
How many people are in a team?
Six. One table, six people, one club.
Can our club enter more than one team of six?
Possibly, and it depends on how many clubs come in. Tell us on the form if your club would want a second table and we will take it into account when we set the format.
Do our players have to be good at trivia?
No. The rounds are graded, so a table with one obsessive and five casual supporters does fine. The hardest questions are asked only on the night and are worth the most, which is what keeps a room competitive.
Can we see the questions in advance?
You can see the type. Every article in the library ends with public questions, and those are genuinely the same kind that get asked. The questions used on the night itself are never published anywhere, before or after.
We are an association, not a club. Can we bring our clubs in together?
Yes, and that is the easiest way to do it. Get in touch and we will make sure your clubs are seated sensibly on the night.
When will the dates be announced?
After this expression of interest stage, once the most suitable venue and format have been settled.
