About

Read. Learn. Play.

Soccer Trivia is a football knowledge library and a live competition, built so that the two feed each other. Everything asked on a trivia night can be learned here first, free, by anyone.

What this is

Most football trivia is a list of answers with nothing behind it. You either happen to know that Uruguay won the first World Cup or you do not, and afterwards you know one more fact and nothing else.

This is built the other way round. The library comes first — articles on World Cups, club football, the laws of the game, women's football, Australian football and the rest — and the questions come out of the articles. Read the piece on the 1950 Maracanazo and you will answer the question about it, and you will also know why 200,000 people went home in silence.

There are currently 425 articles and 2395 questions in the library, and it grows every week.

A Soccer Channel production

Soccer Trivia is produced by the team behind Soccer Channel, an Australian football media outlet, and is operated by Nickon Enterprises Pty Ltd.

Soccer Channel covers the game; Soccer Trivia is where the audience gets to play it back. The two share editorial standards, and coverage of Soccer Trivia runs across both.

How we handle facts

Everything carries a source

Every article and every question is written against a named source, and the source is listed on the page. Nothing is published from memory.

Everything has a review date

Records change. Each entry carries the date it was last checked and the date it is due to be checked again, and both are shown on the article.

Corrections are public

If we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. There is a correction link at the bottom of every article. Tell us and we will look.

Why some questions are hidden

Each article shows three questions. It is linked to more than that.

The rest are used at live events, and they are not published anywhere — not on this site, not in the search results, not in the feeds, and not in the page source. A trivia night stops being a competition the moment the questions can be looked up in the room, so the ones that decide a night are kept off the internet entirely.

That is a deliberate design choice and it is enforced in the software, not by remembering to be careful.

Get in touch
